NOTICE TO FELLOWS.

1. The Library of the EDINBURGH GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY is at 5 St. Andrew Square, in Room No. 23. Fellows may have admission to it by applying to Mr. DAWSON.

2. Non-resident Fellows may obtain the loan of Books upon application to the Librarian, on paying the expenses of carriage both ways.

NOTICE TO SOCIETIES, AUTHORS, FELLOWS, AND THE PUBLIC.

THE Library Committee would be greatly indebted to Societies, Authors, Fellows, and the Public for the Presentation of Maps, Serials, or Complete Works bearing upon the study of Geology and the kindred sciences; and they would be especially grateful for the gift of such Parts or Volumes as would enable them to complete imperfect sets.

From the Laws and Bye-Laws of the

Edinburgh Geological Society.

V.-Librarian.

The Librarian, aided by a Library Committee, shall have charge of the Society's Books, Manuscripts, and Library, and shall arrange and keep a Catalogue of the same.

III.-BYE-LAWS OF THE SOCIETY.

A. As to the Society's Library.

1. The Society shall have in view the formation of a Geological Library, by means of donation, purchase, or exchange.

2. No purchases of Books for the Society's Library shall be made until the same shall have been approved of by the Council, or by the Society, at an ordinary Meeting.

6. The Librarian or his Assistant shall attend, either personally or by substitute, on the nights of meeting for the purpose of giving out and receiving Books.

9. If a Book be not returned to the Librarian within the time specified on the label, it shall be the duty of the Librarian to intimate that the Book is required in the Library, for which intimation a fine of sixpence

shall be imposed, together with an additional fine of threepence for every week allowed to pass before the Book is returned.

10. Fellows borrowing Books from the Library shall subscribe their names in the Register kept in the Library for that purpose, together with the full titles and number of Volumes of the Book or Books so borrowed, with the date of such borrowing. In returning such Book or Books to the Library, the Fellows shall carefully replace the same on the shelf specified alphabetically on the Book or Books so borrowed; marking in the said Register of borrowed Books the date of such return. The current numbers of Periodicals must lie on the Library table and may not be borrowed. A fine of sixpence per volume or periodical shall be exigible for the infraction by Fellows of this Bye-Law.

II. It shall be the duty of the Librarian assisted by the Library Committee to add to the Catalogue the names of all the Books, Maps, Magazines, &c., as they are received, and no Book, &c., shall be given out for circulation until it has been properly entered in the Catalogue.

12. No Maps, Plans, Diagrams, or Sections, shall be allowed to be borrowed from the Library; but should any Fellow be engaged in writing a paper for the Society, and require the use of any such Map, Plan, &c., he shall be entitled to receive the same from the Librarian on application to him therefor.
