And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prifon, and delivered him to four quaternions of foldiers to keep him, intending after Eafter to bring him forth to the people. Peter therefore was kept in prifon: but prayer was made without ceafing of the Church unto God for him. And when Herod would have brought him forth, the fame night Peter was fleeping between two foldiers bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prifon. And behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light fhined in the prifon and he fmote Peter on the fide, and raised him up, faying, Arife up, quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. And the angel faid unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy fandals. And fo he did. And he faith unto him, caft thy garment about thee, and follow me. And he went out and followed him, and wift not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he faw a vifion. When they were past the first and the fecond ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city, which opened to them of his own accord and they went out, and paffed on through one street: and forthwith the angel departed from him. And when Peter was come to himself, he faid, Now I know of a furety that the Lord hath fent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

The Gofpel. S. Matth. 16. 13. WHE WHEN Jefus came into the coafts of Cefarea Philippi, he asked his difciples, faying,

Whom do men fay, that I, the Son of man, am? And they faid, Some fay that thou art John the Baptift; fome Elias; and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He faith unto them, But whom fay ye that I am? And Simon Peter anfwered and faid, Thou art Chrift the Son of the living God. And Jefus answered and faid unto him, Bleffed art thou Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I fay alfo unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build ny Church; and the gates of hell fhall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatfoever thou fhalt bind on earth fhall be bound in heaven; and whatfoever thou fhalt loofe on earth fhall be loofed in heaven.

Are ye able to drink of the cup that I fhall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptifin that I am bapsized with? They fay unto him, We are able. And he faith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptifm that I am baptized with: but to fit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give; but it shall be given to rhem for whom it is prepared of my Father. And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two bre-.. thren. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, infomuch that they brought forth the fick into the ftreets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the leaft the thadow of Peter paffing by might overfhadow fome of them. But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are loft:: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, left the light of the glorious Gofpel of Chrift, who is the image of God, fhould fhine unto them. And I heard a loud voice faying in heaven, Now is come falvation and ftrength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Chrift for the accufer of our brethren is caft down, which accufed them before our God day and night. And they overcane him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their teftimony and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Wo to the inhabiters of the earth, and of the fea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. The Gofpel. S. Matth. 18. 1. AT the fame time came the difciples unto Jefus, faying, Who is the greateft in the kingdom of heaven? And Jefus called a little child unto him, and fet him in the midft of them, and faid, Verily I fay unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye fhall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whofoever therefore fhall humble himself as this little child, the fame is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whofo fhall receive one fuch little child in my name, receiveth me. But whofo fhall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a milftone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the fea. Wo unto the world because of offences! for it muft needs be that offences come; but wo to that man by whom the offence cometh! Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and caft them from thee: it is

better for thee to enter into lif halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be caft into everlafting fire: And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and caft it from thee; it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be caft into hell-fire. Take heed that ye defpife not one of these little ones: for I fay unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

to write unto you, and exhort

you,
ye fhould earnestly
contend for the faith which was

For there are certain men crept
in unawares, who were before
of old ordained to this condem-

the grace of our God into lafci-

Lord God, and our Lord Jefus

in remembrance, though ye
once knew this, how that the
Lord having faved the people
out of the land of Egypt, after-

which kept not their firft eftate,
but left their own habitation,
he hath referved in everlafting
