fear of them that we may enjoy such refreshing sleep, as may fit us for the duties of the following day. Make us ever mindful of the time when we shall lie down in the dust; and grant us grace always to live in such a state, that we may never be afraid to die: So that living and dying we may be thine, through the merits and satisfaction of thy Son Christ Jesus, in whose name we offer up these our imperfect prayers. Amen.

T

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

1 Ou Sundays and on other days, when it may be convenient, it. will be proper to begin with a Chapter, or part of a Chapter, from the New Testament.

SELECTIONS OF PSALMS,

To be used instead of the Psalms for the day, at the Discretion of the Minister.

SELECTION I.

Psalm 19. Cæli enarrant. THE heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handy work.

One day telleth another; and one night certifieth another. There is neither speech nor language; but their voices are heard among them.

Their sound is gone out into all lands; and their words into the ends of the world.

In them hath he set a taber nacle for the sun; which cometh forth as a bridegroom out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a giant to run his course.

It goeth forth from the uttermost part of the heaven, and runneth about unto the end of it again; and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

The law of the Lord is an undefiled law, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord

pure, and giveth light unto the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is clean, and endureth for ever; the judgments of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and the honey-comb.

Moreover, by them is thy servant taught; and in keeping of them there is great reward.

Who can tell how oft he of fendeth? O cleanse thou me from my secret faults.

Keep thy servant also from presumptuous sins, lest they get the dominion over me.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be alway acceptable in thy sight,

O Lord, my strength, and my Redeemer.

Psalm 24. Domini est terra.

The statutes of the Lord are right, and rejoice the heart; the commandment of the Lord is!

For he hath founded it upon

the seas, and prepared it upon the floods,

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall rise up in his holy place?

Even he that hath clean hands and a pure heart; and that hath not lift up his mind unto vanity, nor sworn to deceive his neighbour.

He shall receive the blessing from the Lord; and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This is the generation of those who seek him; even of those who seek thy face, O Jacob.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and beye lift up ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is the King of glory? it is the Lord strong and mighty, even the Lord mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lift up ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is the King of glory? even the Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory.

Psalm 103. Benedic, anima

[blocks in formation]

He showed his ways unto Moses, his works unto the children of Israel.

The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, long-suffering, and of great goodness.

He will not alway be chiding; neither keepeth he his anger for over.

He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our wickedness.

For look how high the heaven is in comparison of the earth; so great is his mercy also toward those who fear him!

Look how wide also the east is from the west; so far hath he set our sins from us!

Yea, like as a father pitieth his own children; even so is the Lord merciful unto them that fear him.

For he knoweth whereof we are made; he remembereth that we are but dust.

The days of man are but as grass; for he flourisheth as a flower of the field.

For as soon as the wind goeth over it, it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

But the merciful goodness of

the Lord endureth for ever and

ever upon those who fear him; and his righteousness upon children's children;

Even upon such as keep his covenant, and think upon his commandments to do them.

The Lord hath prepared his seat in heaven, and his kingdom ruleth over all.

O praise the Lord, ye Angels of his, ye that excel in strength; ye that fulfil his commandment, and hearken unto the voice of his words.

O praise the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye servants of his, that do his pleasure.

O speak good of the Lor

My bones are not hid from thee, though I be made secretly, and fashioned beneath in the earth.

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being imperfect; and in thy book were all my members written.

Which day by day were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them..

How dear are thy counsels unto me, O God; O how great is the sum of them!

If I tell them, they are more in number than the sand; when I wake up, I am present with thee.

Try me, O God, and seek the ground of my heart; prove me, and examine my thoughts.

Look well if there be any way of wickedness in me; and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 145. Exaltabo te, Deus.

WILL magnify thee, O God, my King, and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

Every day will I give thanks unto thee, and praise thy name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and marvellous, worthy to be praised; there is no end of his greatness.

One generation shall praise thy works unto another, and declare thy power.

So that men shall speak of the might of thy marvellous acts; and I will also tell of thy greatness.

The memorial of thine abundant kindness shall be showed and men shall sing of thy righteousness.

I will give thanks unto thee, for I am fearfully and wonder- The Lord is gracious and. fully made: Marvellous are thy merciful; long-suffering, and works, and that my soul know-of great goodness. eth right well.

That thy power, thy glory, and mightiness of thy kingdom, might be known unto men.

Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages. The Lord upholdeth all such as fall, and lifteth up all those who are down.

The eyes of all wait upon thee, O Lord, and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and fillest all things living with plenteousness.

The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him; yea, all such as call upon him faithfully.

He will fulfil the desire of those who fear him; he also will hear their cry, and will help them.

The Lord preserveth all those who love him; but scattereth abroad all the ungodly.

My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: and let all flesh give thanks unto his holy name for ever and ever.

Behold, I was shapen in wickedness, and in sin hath my mother conceived me.

But lo, thou requirest truth in the inward parts, and shalt make me to understand wisdom secretly.

Thou shalt purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Thou shalt make me hear of joy and gladness, that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

Turn thy face from my sins, and put out all my misdeeds. Make me a clean heart, God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.

O give me the comfort of thy help again, and stablish me with thy free Spirit.

Then shall I teach thy ways unto the wicked, and sinners shell be converted unto thee.

Now when I think thereupon, I pour out my heart by my-i self; for I went with the multitude, and brought them forth into the house of God,

In the voice of praise and thanksgiving, among such as keep holy-day.

Why art thou so full of heaviness, O my soul? and why art thou so disquieted within me?

Put thy trust in God; for I will yet give him thanks for the help of his countenance.

Commit thy way unto the Lord, and put thy trust in him, and he shall bring it to pass.

He shall make thy righteousness as clear as the light; and thy just dealing asthe noon-day.

Hold thee still in the Lord, and abide patiently upon him; but grieve not thyself at him whose way doth prosper, against the man that doeth after evil counsels.

Namely, while they say daily unto me, Where is now thy God?

Why art thou so vexed, O my soul? and why art thou so disquieted within me?

O put thy trust in God; for I will yet thank him, who is the help of my countenance and my God.

Wicked doers shall be rooted out: and they that patiently abide the Lord, those shall inherit the land.
