A Cube is a figure having six equal square sides or faces.

A Cubic Foot is a cube one foot long, one foot wide, and one foot high.

A Cubic Yard is a cube one yard long, one yard wide, and one yard high.

A cubic yard contains three cubic feet in the length and three in the breadth; therefore, the number of cubic feet in the base equals 3X3= 9; but, as its thickness is three feet, therefore, the contents of the whole.

are 3 × 9 = 27 cubic feet. Hence,

NOTES.-1. The exact length of the SOLAR year is 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, 46 seconds; but it is usually considered to be 365 days 6 hours, or 365 days. This day amounts in 4 years to one whole day; therefore, every fourth year, or every year divisible by 4, consists of 366 days, and is called a bissextile or leap year.

The additional day is added to the month of February, which has 28 days in ordinary years, and 29 days in leap years.

2. For further accuracy, it is determined that of the even centuries, only those which are divisible by 400 are considered leap years
