This book divides the Dutch historical influences in Malaysia into four different eras. Each era is analysed and represented in relation to its respective social environment and political developments.


Included are the historical contributions of individuals, such as the Dutch Admirals who attempted to capture Malacca, the Dutch Governors and their administrative ranks who governed the town and the contributions of the Malacca Burghers in shaping Malaysia's history.

About the author (2008)

Dennis De Witt is a 5th generation Malaysian Dutch Eurasian originally from Malacca, Malaysia. He has developed a keen interest on subjects relating to Dutch influences in Malaysian history due to his own heritage. His research on his ancestors has produced family data going through 300 years, down 11 generations and across 3 continents. In 2009, he was named as the winner of the ‘Dutch incentive prize for Genealogy’ (Nederlandse Aanmoedigingsprijs voor Genealogie) for his book ‘History of the Dutch in Malaysia’ and he received his prize in the Netherlands. He was the first ever recipient of this prize who is not a Dutch citizen.
