This is the book you should start with if you want to learn Chinese. I have looked at pretty much all of those available in China and the west.
It combines all you need to rapidly acquire a
reasonable basic level, the book enables you to learn Chinese through an entirely phonetic system and then to add written characters at will.
The texts are brilliantly constructed in a humorous way from the start, and as they are translated and placed next to the texts there is no fear introduced. This enables you to easily remember the stories and conversations. These can then be amended by the student to gain confidence to understand and speak in ways which correspond closely to real life situations and requirements.
