In i565, (a) Her Majesty being informed of one Nicholas Bauduyn, (supposed to have been a Gcnevese) who preached in the Island, and who by his knowledge and wisdom seemed qualified for tha.t vocation, and laboured towards the Glory of God and the honor of the slate, but had no other means of subsistance than the charity of the people; directed the Governor to remunerate him at his discretion. In i565 (6-) Her Majesty having understood that there were reformed Churches in the Diocese of Coutances, simitar to those inEngland, apd that there was a minister in Guernsey who since his arrival there bad likewise used the same order of preaching, which was also the same as was established in the French Church in London, permitted him to becontinued at St. Peter Port, it being always understood that the other parishes slwutd diligently reject all superstitions practiced in the Diocese of.Coutances, and follow the order and service set forth in the Kingdom, with the necessary injunctions to that effect. About this time (c) the people petitioned Her Majesty to remit the arrears due by them for Masses, Obits, etc. etc. under the Romish Church, which was immediately grauted.(rf) The Island was placed under the Diocese of Winchester, by an Order of Council in i568; (e) Presbitcrianism seems however to have still prevailed, for there are Ordinances in these times wherein, among other things, Seate arc ordered to be provided for the Communicants.
