PLATED AND PRINTED FROM TYPE SET IN BY WEED-PARSONS PRINTING CO. PREFACE TO THE AMERICAN EDITION. 243 THE editor of this edition has endeavored in his notes so to explain and supplement the English text as to make the work a trustworthy guide to the American student and a convenient book of reference to the American practitioner. Attention has been given both to adjudicated cases and important statutory changes. It is believed that the book, in its present form, contains, upon the subjects treated, a fairly comprehensive statement of the law of to-day on both sides of the Atlantic, and shows, in addition, its historical development. The placing of the notes at the end of each chapter, with references on the margin of the English text, will probably commend itself to most readers. The plan has the advantage of presenting the American law in a compact form. |
