Elizabeth Postuma Gwillim was born in 1762 in Aldwinkle, Northampton, England. Her parents were Thomas Gwillim (1726-1762) and Elizabeth Spinckes (1723-1762). She married John Graves Simcoe 30 December 1782. Her husband was the first Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Upper Canada.
