Now for the first time, this important reference is available in paperback. Originally published in 1984, this dictionary was published posthumously but had been worked upon by Partridge until six weeks before his death. As the last edition to feature original work by Partridge himself, its place in the history of the lexicography of slang is assured.

I don't know what they are smoking... I am holding the 5th Edition of this MASSIVE tome, and it is dated 1961, Eric Partridge. It was first published in 1937according to the...damn, drawing blanks about page name. the one right behind title, listing all dates and history of publication.
I was looking for its companion volume, Volume II; The Supplement.

This is a great dictionary with obscure words and phrases including their origin, history and evolution with dates.
At one time, it could be read on-line and with key-word search capabilities
. This was grand even with the limitations since it was for sale, after all.
But no longer! It must be purchased in cumbersome formats. The kindle version is lacking in functionality and the printed version is useless for research.
I’d readily pay the $40.00 for an on-line version in the original book format as it was formally available on Google Book searches. How about it publishing world?
