Zech. 9: 12.

241.
1 How sad our state by nature is!
Our sin, how deep it stains!
And Satan holds our captive minds

Fast in his slavish chains.

2 But there's a voice of sovereign grace Sounds from the sacred word: "Ho! ye despairing sinners, come, And trust upon the Lord."

3 My soul obeys th' almighty call,
And runs to this relief:

I would believe thy promise, Lord:
Oh, help my unbelief!

4 A guilty, weak, and helpless worm,
On thy kind arms I fall:

Be thou my strength and righteousness, My Saviour and my All.

God revealed in the Atonement.

242.
1 FATHER, how wide thy glory shines!
How high thy wonders rise! [signs,
Known through the earth by thousand
By thousand through the skies.

2 Those mighty orbs proclaim thy power,
Their motions speak thy skill;
And on the wings of every hour
We read thy patience still.

3 But when we view thy strange design To save rebellious worms,

(137)

Nothing, O Saviour! but thy blood,
Can bring us near the throne.
But thine illustrious sacrifice

Hath answered all demands;

And peace and pardon from the skies
Are offered by thy hands.

3 'Tis by thy death we live, O Lord!
'Tis on thy cross we rest:
Forever be thy love adored,
Thy name forever blessed.

5 Jesus, my God, thy blood alone Hath sufficient to atone : Thy blood can make me white as snow; No Jewish types could cleanse me so. 245. Matt. 7: 13, 14. 1 BROAD is the road that leads to death, And thousands walk together there; But wisdom shows a narrow path, With here and there a traveller. 2 "Deny thyself, and take thy cross," Is the Redeemer's great command: Nature must count her gold but dross, If she would gain this heavenly land.

3 The fearful soul that tires and faints, And walks the ways of God no more, Is but esteemed almost a saint,

And makes his own destruction sure. 4 Lord! let not all my hopes be vain; Create my heart entirely new: Which hypocrites could ne'er attain; Which false apostates never knew.

246.

Psalm 73.

WATTS.

1 LORD, what a thoughtless wretch was I
To mourn and murmur and repine,
To see the wicked, placed on high,
In pride and robes of honor shine!

But oh, their end, their dreadful end!
Thy sanctuary taught me so:

On slippery rocks, I see them stand,
And fiery billows roll below..
Their fancied joys, how fast they flee!
Just like a dream when man awakes;
Their songs of softest harmony.

Are but a prelude to their plagues.

4 Now I esteem their mirth and wine

Too dear to purchase with my blood: Lord, 'tis enough that thou art mine, My life, my portion, and my God!

Doxology. PRAISE God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
