Louisville is indebted to this scholar for such a fascinatingly varied chronical of its early development. As 1969 marks the sesquicentennial of the Sketches of Louisville's first printing, it is appropriate for it now to appear for the second time before an interested public. This sesquicentennial edition has been enhanced with an Epilogue containing biographical note of McMurtries' and a complete Index, which, besides listing subject headings, also includes full names and dates where identifications have been possible. All corrections within the Index have been placed between brackets.
