I Sec. 6. The commissioned

2 sioned by the Governor as commander-in-chief. No commis3 sioned officer shall be removed from office during the term for 4 which he shall have been appointed or elected, unless by the 5 Senate on the recommendation of the Governor, stating the 6 grounds on which such removal is recommended, or by the 7 sentence of a court-martial, or upon the findings of an exam8 ining board organized pursuant to law, or for absence with9 out leave for a period of six months or more.

Art. 55. The division of the militia into brigades, regiments, companies, made in pursuance of the militia laws now in force, shall be considered as the proper division of the militia of this State, until the same shall be altered by some future law. Art. 26. In all cases and at all times, the military ought to be under strict subordination to and governed by the civil power.

190. XVIII. The Legislative Assembly shall provide by law for the establishment of volunteer organizations of the several arms of the service, which shall be classed as active militia, and no other organized body of armed men shall be permitted to perform military duty in this State, except the army of the United States, without the proclamation of the Governor of the State.
