VIII. Promises of the Security, TRANQUILLITY,

and PROSPERITY of the CHURCH. Ifa. iv. 5. And the LORD will create upon every dwelling-place of Mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud, and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night ; for upon all the glory shall be a defence.

Ver. 6. And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the day-time from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.

Il. xxvii. 2. In that day fing ye unto her a vineyard of red wine.

Ver. 3. I the LORD do keep it ; I will water it every moment ; lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.

IS. xxxiii. 20. Look upon Zion, the city of our folemnities ; thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither

Ver. 2.1. For there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams, wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby :

Ver. 22. For the LORD is our Judge, the LORD is our Lawgiver ; the LORD is our King ; he will fave us.

If. liv. 14. In righteousness fhalt thou be established : thou shalt be far from oppression, for thou fhalt not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near thee.

Ver. 15. Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me : whosoever shall gather together against thee, shall fall for thy fake. Ver. 17. No weapon that is formed against thee,


shall prosper ; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment, thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, faith the LORD.

Ifa. lxv. 18. Be you glad, and rejoice forever in that which I create ; for, behold, I create Jerusalem, a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

Ver. 19. And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people ; and the voice of weeping shall be no inore heard in het, nor the voice of crying.

Ija. li. 3. The LORD will comfort Zion; he will comfort all her waste places, and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desart like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

Pf. cii. 13. Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion ; for the time to favour her, yea, the set time is


Ver. 14. For thy fervants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof.

Ver. 16. When the Lord shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.

Ifa. lxvi. 10. Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her ; rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her.

Ver. 11. That ye may fuck and be satisfied with the breasts of her confolations ; that ye may milk out and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.

Ver. 12. For thus faith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream : then shall ye fuck, ye shall be borne upon her fides, and be dandled upon her knees. See ver. 13, 14.

Fer. xxxiii. 6. In his days Judah shall be faved, and Ifrael shall dwell fafely. Matth. xvi. 18. Upon this rock will I build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.


Dan. vii. 27. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom

under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.



Ifa. lix. 21. As for me, this is my covenant with them, faith the LORD, My Spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put into thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy feed, nor out of the mouth of thy feed's, seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for


Ifa. lxvi. 22. For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make, shall remain before me, faith the LORD, fo shall your feed and your name remain.

Jer. xxxi. 35. Thus faith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar ;

the LORD of hosts is his name :

Ver. 36. If those ordinances depart from before me, faith the LORD, then the feed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

Ver. 37. Thus faith the LORD, if heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath ; I will also cast off all the feed of Israel, for all that they have done, faith the LORD.. See also chap. xxxiii. 20, 21, 25, 26. Dan. vii. 14. His dominion is an everlasting do

minion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Jer. xxx. 9. They shall serve the LORD their GOD, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

Ver. 10. Therefore fear not thou, O my fervant Jacob, faith the LORD, neither be thou dismayed,

Israel ; for lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity ; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest and quiet, and none shall make him afraid. See to the end of the Chapter.

Jer. xxxi. 1. At the same time, faith the LORD, will I be the GOD of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

Ver. 4. Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, О virgin of Israel; thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

Ver. 10. Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that fcattered Ifrael will gather him, and keep him, as a Thepherd doth his flock.

Ver. 17. There is hope in thine end, that thy chil. dren shall come again to their own border.

Ver. 31. Behold, the days come, faith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the houfe of Ilsael, and with the house of Judah:

Ver. 32. Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, &e.

Ver. 33. But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Ifrael: After those days, faith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts : and I will be their GOD, and they shall be my people.'

Ver. 38. Behold the days come, faith the LORD, that the city shall be built to the LORD, from the tower of Hananiel, unto the gate of the corner.

Jer. xxxii. 41. Yea, I will rejoice over them, to do them good, and I will plant them in this land afsuredly, with my whole heart, and with my whole soul. See from ver. 37. to the end.

Jer. xxxiii. 7. And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them as at the first.

Ver. 8. And I will cleanse them from all their iniquities, &c. Ver. 9.

And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth which shall hear of all the good I do unto them, &c.

Ver. 15. In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up. unto David, and he shall execute judgment and justice in the land.

Ver. 16. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely : and this is the name wherewith the shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.

Ver. 24. Considerest thou not, what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chofen, he will cast them off ; &c.

Ver. 25. Thus faith the LORD, If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth :

Ver. 26. Then will I cast away the feed of Jacob and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his feed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac,
