STATUTES made in the Parliament begun at Weftminfter the fourteenth Day of June, in the fourth Year of the Reign of our Moft Gracious and Excellent Sovereign Lady ANNE, by the Grace of God, of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c. Anno Dom. One thoufand feven hundred and five, and continued by several Prorogations and Adjournments until and on the nineteenth Day of March, in the fifth Year of the Reign of our faid Sovereign Lady Anne; viz.

CAP. I.

An Act for exhibiting a Bill in this prefent Parliament for naturalizing the Moft Excellent Princefs Sophia, Electress and Dutchefs Dowager of Hanover, and the Iffue of Her Body.

and Dutchefs Dowager of Hanover, and the Iflue of Her Body, are to be naturalized, and by reafon of their being beyond the Seas, they cannot qualify themfelves in order thereto, according to the Act made in the feventh Year of the Reign of King James the First, which requires every Person to receive the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, within one Month before any Bill for Naturalization be exhibited, and also take the Oatlis of Supremacy and Allegiance in the Parliament Houfe, before His or Her Bill be twice read ;' Be it enacted by the Queen's Moft Excellent Majelty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and the Commons in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That a Bill for the Naturalization of the faid Moft Excellent Princefs Sophia, Electress and Dutchefs Dowager of Hanover, and the Iflue of Her Body, fhall and may be exhibited and brought into this prefent Parliament, and twice read; any Law, Statute, Matter or Thing whatsoever to the contrary notwithstanding.

An Act to repeal feveral Claufes in the Statute made in the third and fourth Years of Her prefent Majesty's Reign, for fecuring the Kingdom of England from feveral Acts lately paffed in the Parliament of Scotland.

WHEREAS in a Statute made in the third and fourth

Years of Her prefent Majelty's Reign, intituled, An Act 3 & 4 Ann. c. 7. for the effectual fecuring the Kingdom of England from the apparent Dangers that may arife from feveral Aas lately paffed in the Parliament of Scotland, there are Claufes contained in thefe • Words following (that is to fay :)'

"Natives of Scotland (except fettled Inhabitants in England, &c.) "after 25th Dec. 1705, adjudged Aliens, &c. § 2. Horfes, "Arms, &c. conveyed in Scotland, Forfeiture 100l. &c. § 3. "Scotch Cattle brought into England, &c. forfeited. § 4. Cattle "fo brought may be detained 4 Days, &c. § 5. English Cattle "intermixed, forfeited. § 6. Perfons fued, to plead the General "Iffue. Treble Cofts. 7. Scotch Coals imported forfeited. § 8. "Scotch Linen alfo. § 9.

X. And whereas, fince the making the faid Act, an A&t hath been made and paffed in the Parliament of Scotland, for enabling Her Majefty to appoint Commiffioners to treat with Commiffioners for the Kingdom of England, of and concerning an Union of the faid Kingdoms of England and Scotland? Now to the End that the good and friendly Difpofition of this Kingdom towards the Kingdom of Scotland may appear; Be Repeal. it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons in Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the faid Claufes be from henceforth abfolutely repealed and vacated to all Intents and Purposes whatsoever,

An Act for the Naturalization of the Moft Excellent Princefs Sophia, Electrefs and Dutchefs Dowager of Hanover, and the Iffue of Her Body.

WHEREAS the imperial Crown and Dignity of the Realms of England, France and Ireland, and the Do• minions thereto belonging, after the Demife and Death of Your Majefty, Our Moft Gracious Sovereign, without Iffue of Your Body, is limited by Act of Parliament, to the Most Excellent Princefs Sophia, Electrefs and Dutchefs Dowager of Hanover, Grand-daughter of the late King James the Firft, and the Heirs of Her Body, being Proteftants; And whereas Your Majesty, by Your Royal Care and Concern for the Hap pinefs of thefe Kingdoms, reigns in the Hearts and Affections of all Your People, to their great Comfort and Satisfaction, and will be a glorious Example to Your Royal Succeffors in future Ages: And to the End the faid Princefs Sophia, Electrefs and Dutchefs Dowager of Hanover, and the Iffue of Her Body, and all Perfons lineally defcending from Her, may be

encouraged to become acquainted with the Laws and Conftitutions of this Realm, it is juft and highly reafonable, that they, in Your Majesty's Life Time (whom God long preferve) fhould be naturalized, and be deemed, taken and efteemed natural born Subjects of England: We Your Majesty's most dutiful and loyal Subjects, the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in Parliament affembled, do moft humbly befeech Your Majefty that it may be enacted; and therefore be it enacted by the Queen's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and the Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Au thority of the fame, That the faid Princefs Sophia, Electrefs and Dutchefs Dowager of Hanover, and the Iffue of Her Body, and all Perfons lineally defcending from Her, born or hereafter to be born, be and fhall be, to all Intents and Purposes whatfoever, deemed, taken and efteemed natural born Subjects of this Kingdom, as if the faid Princefs, and the Iffue of Her Body, and all Perfons lineally defcending from Her, born or hereafter to be born, had been born within this Realm of England; any Law, Statute, Matter or Thing whattoever to the contrary notwithstanding.

II. Provided always, and be it further enacted and declared by the Authority aforefaid, That every Perfon and Perfons, who fhall be naturalized by virtue of this Act of Parliament, and fhall become a Papift, or profefs the Popish Religion, fhall not enjoy any Benefit or Advantage of a natural born Subject of England; but every fuch Perfon fhall be adjudged and taken as an Alien, born out of the Allegiance of the Queen of Eng land, to all Intents and Purposes what foever; any Thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding.

An Act for continuing the Duties upon Malt, Mum, Cyder and Perry, for the Service of the Year One thousand feven hundred and fix.

CAP. VI.

An Act for continuing an additional Subfidy of Tunnage and Poundage, and certain Duties upon Coals, Culm and Cynders, and additional Duties of Excife, and for fettling and establishing a Fund thereby, and by other Ways and Means, for Payment of Annuities, to be fold for raifing a further Supply to Her Majefty, for the Service of the Year One thousand seven hundred and fix, and other Ufes therein mentioned.

AY it pleafe Your Moft Excellent Majefty, we Your Majefty's moft dutiful and loyal Subjects the Commons of England in Parliament affembled, duly confidering Your Majefty's great Occafions for Money to carry on the prefent War, and having Regard as well to the great Burthen of Taxes now lying upon Your Majefty's Subjects, as to the prefent Condition of the publick Funds, and the prefent Incumbrances thereupon, are therefore defirous, by fuch eafy and effectual

Ways and Means, as in this Act are expreffed and intended, to raife a Sum of Money, not exceeding in the whole, Two millions five hundred feventy five thousand seven hundred fixty one Pounds fixteen Shillings and Two-pence (Part of the Money neceffary to be provided in this Seffion of Parliament for Your Majefty's Supply), and fuch further Sum of Money as will be fufficient, during the first two Years of the Term hereinafter mentioned, to compleat the Payment of the Annuities to be purchafed upon this A&t; and have for that End and Purpofe, cheerfully and unanimously given and granted, and do by this A&t give and grant unto Your Majefty the Subfidy of Tunnage and Poundage upon Wines, Goods and Merchandizes, and the feveral Duties upon Coal, Culm and Cynders, and upon Beer, Ale, Cyder and other Liquors hereafter in this Act mentioned, for fuch feveral and refpective Terms, and to commence at or from fuch refpective Days and Times, and to be paid and payable in fuch Manner and Form, as in this Act are afterwards expreffed: (That is to fay), &c.

Now we Your Majefty's faid dutiful and loyal Subjects the Commons in Parliament aff mbled, for the Ends and Purposes afore-` faid, do most humbly befeech Your Majefty, that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That over and Tunnage, &c. above the Subfidies of Tunnage and Poundage above mentioned, for 98 Years. and over and above all other Subfidies, additional Duties, Impofitions and Payments whatsoever, by any Act or Acts of Parliament, or otherwife howfoever already due or payable, or which ought to be paid to Her Majefty, Her Heirs or Succeffors, for or upon any Wines, Goods and Merchandizes whatfoever imported or to be imported, there fhall be continued, and be raised, levied, collected, paid and satisfied unto Her Majefty, Her Heirs and Succeffors, for and upon all Wines which from and after the eighth Day of March which fhall be in the Year of our Lord One thoufand feven hundred and fis, at any Time or Times within or during the Term of ninety and eight Years from thence next and immediately enfuing, and fully to be compleat and ended, fhall be imported or brought into the Kingdom of England, Dominion of Wales and Town of Berwick upon Tweed, the fame or the like Subfidy of Tunnage, as by the faid Act of the fecond Year of Her Majefty's Reign was charged or impofed, 2 & 3 Ann. c. 9. for or upon any Kind of Wine or Wines whatfoever; (that is to fay) one third Part of fuch or the like feveral and refpective Duties, as by the faid Act of the ninth Year of His faid late Majefty's Reign, were granted to him during his Life, and by the faid Act of the first Year of Fier Majesty's Reign, are continued to Her during Her Majefty's Life, for or upon any Kind of Wine or Wines refpectively, and for and upon all Manner of Goods and Merchandizes, which from and after the faid eighth Day of March, which fhall be in the Year of our Lord One thoufand feven hundred and fix, at any Time or Times within or during the faid

Term of ninety and eight Years, shall be imported or brought into this Realm, or any Her Majefty's Dominions, to the fame be longing, by way of Merchandize, there fhall be continued, raifed, levied, collected, paid and fatisfied to Her Majefty, Her Heirs and Succeffors, the fame or the like Subfidy of Poundage, as by the faid Act of the fecond Year of Her Majefty's Reign was laid or impofed, for or upon any Goods or Merchandizes whatfoever; (that is to fay) one third Part of fuch or the like feveral and refpective Duties, as by the faid Act of the ninth Year of His faid late Majefty's Reign, were granted to him during His 1 Ann. Stat. I. Life, and by the faid Act of the firft Year of Her Majefty's Reign, are continued during Her Majefty's Life, for or upon the fame Goods and Merchandizes refpectively, (except fuch Goods and other Mechandizes, as by the faid Subfidy Acts made in the ninth Year of His faid late Majefty's Reign, and in the first and fecond Years of Her now Majelty's Reign, or any of them, are exempted from Payment of the faid Subfidies thereby granted.) Except fuch as are exempted from Payment, repealed.

II. And it is hereby enacted, That in all Cafes where by the faid Subfidy Act of the fecond Year of Her Majefty's Reign, or by any general or particular Claufes therein contained, any Drawbacks or Abatements of the Whole or any Part of the Duties thereby granted, or any other Allowances whatfoever, are appointed to be made or given in refpect of the Subfidy thereby granted, there fhall be in the like Cafes refpectively the fame, or the like Drawbacks and Abatements of the Whole or Part of the Duties by this Act granted, and other Allowances made and given in refpect of the Subfidy hereby imposed; and that the said feveral Subfidies and Duties by this Act payable, during the Continuance thereof, and all Arrearages of the fame fhall be raised, levied, collected, fecured and paid by the fame Ways, Means and Methods, and under fuch Penalties and Forfeitures, and subject to fuch Rules and Directions as in and by the faid Subfidy Acts of the ninth Year of His faid late Majefty's Reign, and of the first and fecond Years of Her now Majefty's Reign, or by any general, relative or particular Claufes, or Words therein, or in any of them contained, and now in force, are prescribed or ap pointed, touching or concerning the faid feveral Subfidies of Tunnage and Poundage, which were thereby refpectively granted as aforefaid; and that fo much of the said Subfidy Act of the fecond Year of Her Majefty's Reign, and fuch of the Branches and Claufes therein contained, or thereby referred unto, as do concern only the Subfidy of Tunnage and Poundage thereby granted, (being one third Part of the Subfidies granted by the faid former Acts as aforefaid) and are now in force, fhall be used, exercised, put in Practice and obferved, in and for the raifing, levying, collecting and anfwering the Subfidies and Duties hereby before granted, as fully and effectually as if the fame were again particu larly and at large repeated and re-enacted in the Body of this pre

fent A&t.

III. And it is hereby declared and enacted, That the Exception contained in the Act of the third Year of Her Majesty's Reign, intituled, An Act for granting to Her Majefly a further 3 & 4 Ann. c. 5. Subfidy on Wines and Merchandizes imported, whereby Currans imported in English-built Shipping, navigated according to the
