The Surveyors belonging to this Office have received Instructions, with respect to Cables, as follows, viz If with good Hempen Bowers and a Hempen Stream, to be marked No. 1. but specified, Two Iron and One Hemp. If with Two Proved Iron Bowers and One Stream of Iron, to be marked No. 1, but specified, Three Iron Cables only. If with One Bower of Hemp and One Bower of Iron, to have no Mark, but specified, One Hemp and One Iron. All Vessels, to be marked No. 1, must have a good Stream Cable, or Hawser of a sufficient Size. All Vessels deficient of Cables or Anchors, to be marked No. 2. All Vessels of 300 Tons and upwards, not having Three Bower Anchors, to be marked No.2. In every other respect, the Surveyors are to be governed by the Instructions they have already received. The Figures 1, 2, 3, &c. in the 5th Column, denote the Vessel to be in the lat, 2d, 3d, &c.
