conversation the author has had with scientific and learned men, and with the sufferers from occasional Blindness, such as the late novelist-Galt, &c. with whom he has often conversed on the subject-have enabled him to discover many qualities and sympathies of the Blind, which his inferior genius and observation might have over-looked. The author has no wish to extend his preface, as the copious notes-descriptive and physiological— given to this Poem, appear in their proper places; he therefore sends forth his work into the world, trusting there may be derived from its perusal, at least, a portion of that pleasure which charmed him while composing it.
