THE REV. S. RICKARDS, M.A.,

RECTOR OF STOWLANGTOFT, SUFFOLK; AND FORMERLY FELLOW OF ORIEL COLLEGE, OXFORD.

MY DEAR MR. RICKARDS,

An attempt to assist in reviving a taste for Latin Prose Composition in this Country has directed my thoughts to the time, when that department of Latin Scholarship was fostered and encouraged at Oxford by the example and influence of Dr. COPLESTON, and to yourself, as the only Oriel man of that period, with whom I enjoy the pleasure of intimate acquaintance. It seems therefore to furnish me with an opportunity, which I have long desired, of expressing publicly my esteem and regard for you. And I hope you will accept this book as a trifling acknowledgment of the advantages, which I have derived from your instructive society during the last twelve years, and as a slight return for the many practical proofs, which you have given of your lively interest in the well-being of Bury School.

Believe me, my dear Mr. RICKARDS,

Most truly yours,

J. W. DONALDSON.
