About this product

Product Information

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a condition affecting at least one in twenty children who experience sensations in taste, touch, sound, sight, smell, movement, and body awareness in a vastly different manner from how other children their ages do. What may be typical activities for most kids are a daily struggle that may result in social, emotional, or academic problems. Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, the best-known SPD researcher in the world, brings together a lifetime of study to teach parents and others the signs and symptoms of SPD and its four major subtypes; ways the disorder is diagnosed and treated; sensory strategies for living with the condition; and methods to help SPD kids thrive.

  • A must read if you have a Sensation Kid in your life

I can't rave enough about Sensational Kids. My son is newly diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder. When I initially got the book I only had time to flip through, and during those few minutes I had more that one "Ah Ha" moment. It gives real life, daily accounts of children with the disorder. It goes into detail regarding the roll this disorder plays on the entire family...siblings, and parents. There are so many aspects to SPD, and this books breaks them all down for you. It's a great "guide" for an overwhelming subject; informative and easy to read. I can't say enough good things about it! My advice is to buy a highlighter along with the book because there are so many things you'll want to come back to.

  • Seems like a great book with useful info

Bought this book because of other reviews...and I only perused it so far but I cannot wait to read it.

  • Very helpful, informative and practical. Easy reading.

As both a therapist as well as a parent of a child suffering from a modular disorder, I have found this book very useful. It helps one understand more what a child with such sensory difficulties is passing through, as well as how to deal with their behaviours. I recommend this book to therapists, teachers, parents and other persons who work with children.

  • A must have for SPD parents

Fabulous book that depicts SPD. The author provides examples of different children with various types of SPD. This book reads easily without medical jargon. Great book for parents who have received an SPD diagnosis and teachers.

  • Best Book in it's Field!

Wonderful Book!!! If you only read one book about SPD it should be this one! Tons of information. 5 Stars! I borrowed it from the library first and knew I had to have my own copy!Great for parents, teachers, grand-parents or anyone who has a special child in their life!
