"Smollett does not seem to have had any part in the translation, and Francklin's only contribution seems to have been the Orestes"--Evans. In a letter of May 8, 1763, Smollett described his contribution as "a small part ... including all the notes historical and critical," but he most likely annotated the Prose works only. Cf.
