The History of Sexuality, Volume 1: An Introduction

A sociological/philosophical/historical book which takes aim at the generally accepted theory that Western culture as a whole has suffered from Puritannical sexual repression for the last few hundered years, and finds that, on the contrary, we are in the midst of a power/pleasure dynamic that forces us to talk unendingly about sex, this (like most of the French theory texts I've read) is both intreguing and maddenningly over my head.
